Repairing a break

Learning how to carve wax for jewellery is tricky and whatever stage you’re at in your jewellery making career, there will be instances when you need to rectify a mistake you’ve made in your wax carving.

This is why we urge you to master that delicate, yet firm grip of your wax when carving. The more steady you keep your hand (with the help on the block) that is holding your wax, the more you can protect it from snapping. You don’t want to squeeze your wax or put too much pressure on it. Lightly keep it secure, and file with a strong smooth force.

Whether you’re repairing a crack or you’re building up wax to remedy taking too much away there are a couple of things you’ll need to keep in mind along the way:

Heat up the tip of your repair tool on your candle flame and collect a small amount scrap wax onto it, allowing it to melt into the break. Give it a second to cool and re-bond together.

File off any extra bits that look like they dont belong.

Continue on, being mindful of the sensitive spot on the wax.

If it breaks at the end of your creation, feel free to put it in the safe box broken. The Seelye team will correct it for you!
